Don’t back down
Keri Putnam, the executive director of the Sundance Institute, lists To Kill A Mockingbird as one of her most influential films. She describes the way that the character, Atticus Finch, always fights for his beliefs and even though it’s clear he will not win, he stands up for what is important. This meant that Putnam never compromised and always ran her film productions in line with her values.
Believe in Karma
Senior Vice President of Hollywood.com, a film and culture website, Michelle Lee, felt that Ferris Bueller’s Day Off spoke to her. She talks about how she was always a stressed child who worried about others’ actions. After watching the film she stuck to the belief that what goes around comes around.

Embrace your neuroses

M*A*S*H and Cheers writer David Isaacs was blown away with Take the Money and Run, specifically the character portrayed by Woody Allen. In the film, Allen’s character plays up his neurosis which Isaacs identified with. It showed being true to yourself is unique and positive, a mindset which gave him the courage to become a writer.

Dare yourself

Film director Kimberly Peirce was overwhelmed with 8 ½ and La Dolce Vita, both of which influenced her to live life to the fullest. It allowed her to let go of others expectations and think of all of the possibilities life had to offer.
Appreciate the ordinary

Film critic Owen Gleiberman cites the classic It’s a Wonderful Life as one of his biggest influences. The deeper meaning that the magic of life is often found in the things you take for granted struck a chord with Gleiberman who reminds himself of it constantly. A great message for a film that was considered a box office flop.
